The team has landed in Antarctica! Early this morning the team was given the green light to fly and they transferred to the airport where they boarded the charter flight to Antarctica. The flight took approximately 4 hours. The route was across the famous Drake Passage and past the coast of Antarctica to the Union Glacier Basecamp.
When they landed conditions were cold and windy (as you might expect) but at the basecamp, which is 8 kilometers from the runway, and in a valley, the temperature was -5C and the wind had all but disappeared. Everyone is doing well. They are settled in at the basecamp enjoying good food and good company. Tomorrow, weather permitting, some of the team will embark on a special trip to an emperor penguin colony.
Make sure to listen to Jim's audio update and check back again tomorrow for another update from the team!
